MIMICO ELIMINATED FROM ONTARIO PLAYOFFS Updated 7/3/2010

The Mountaineers face the reality of a premature exit from the Ontario Junior B Lacrosse Playoffs, and the task of staying sharp over the coming weeks in preparation for hosting the Founders Cup.

Mimico was eliminated by the Newmarket Saints on Friday night, July the 2nd, by virtue of a 11-8 victory at Mimico Arena.  Newmarket wins the best of five series 3 games to 1.

Mimico fought back and showed lots of determination and grit, down 7-3 in the second, came back to tie it up at 7 and entered the third period notted at 8 a piece.   The double blue could not score in the third, and Newmarket chipped in three of their own to seal the victory and the series.

NEWMARKET 11 VS MIMICO 8

The Green Gaels lead the Mississauga Tomahawks 2 game to 1, while the Halton Hills Bulldogs lead the Orillia Kings 2 games to none.  The Kahnawake Hunters eliminated the Gloucester Griffins last night with a 13 to 10 victory.  If the series continue with the leaders winning, the Gaels will play Kahnawake, while the Saints will face the Dogs in the next round.

Check the Founders Cup website often, at the schedule will be loaded in the coming days, and all the updates leading up to the Canadian Junior B Lacrosse Championships.

BLUE FALLS DOWN TO EARTH SUNDAY Updated 6/22/2010

After the high of a solid effort Friday evening, the double blue put in an uninspired effort in the last regular season game of the 2010 season versus the Mississauga Tomahawks.  The Mountaineers spotted Missy a 4 to 1 led and to Mimico's credit, fought back to tie the game at 8 after three periods to force overtime.  Mississauga scored the lone goal in the OT frame to post the 2nd victory of the season versus the Blue boys.

MISSISSAUGA 9, MIMICO 8 - OT

Mimico finishes in 2nd place in the South East division, 5th in the Conference, with a record of 13 wins and 7 losses.  Things do not get any easier as the 2nd season begins this weekend. Mimico will definitely have to bring their A game from here on in, if this wish to make some noise in the Ontario playoffs.

WALL TOO TALL FOR 'SASNE' TO HAUL Updated 6/8/2010

It was the Mimico Lacrosse Wall of Fame induction ceremonies on Saturday night where 3 long-time greats joined the list of builders and players who have made 120 years of Mimico Lacrosse very special.

Before the game the 2010 honourees were joined by Alumni and Wall Members for a wine and cheese reception .  Special thanks to Gerry and Charlie Henderson of Colio Wines for supplying the satisfying libation for the evening.

Entering in the Builders category in 2010 were Mr. Morley Kells, and Mr. Doug "Doc" Holyday.  In the players category, the great Don "Scotty" MacPhail.  Check out the Wall of Fame section for bios on these individuals.

On to the game, where the Mounties spotted the first goal to the visitors and tied things at one, and were very sluggish.   A time-out was called by the boys in blue, and a wake-up call issued by the coaching staff.   Mimico started to run and gun, and were supplied with some timely stops by newcomer to the Mounties, goaltender Joe Tallis.  Mimico  defeated the short handed Indians by a final score of 16-1.

MIMICO 16 VS AKWESASNE 1

The double blue failed again to play a complete game, spotting the visiting and rival Halton Hills Bulldogs a 5 to 1 first period lead.

Mimico stepped up their game in the 2nd and 3rd periods, but could not make up their poor start.   Halton improved to 8-0, for first in the South-East Division .  Mimico falls to 5-4 with a set of weekend games coming up in the Nations Capital.  Saturday night versus the Gloucester Griffins at 8pm, and Sunday afternoon versus the Nepean Knights at 2pm.

MIMICO DROPS ANOTHER Updated 5/19/2010

The key in determining if you are a good team is winning the games that you should and stealing some others you shouldn't along the way.  The Mountaineers are not putting up the results of a good team at the moment, giving the Toronto Beaches their first win of the season, falling to the rookie team by a score of 11 to 9 on Tuesday May 18th.

Toronto Beaches 11 vs MIMICO 9

The loss drops the season record of the M's to 5 wins and 3 losses and presents their first "must win" game of the season, the first of four games versus the Halton Hills Bulldogs, Thursday night May 20th.  Halton stands at a perfect 7-0 and another loss would put the boys in blue 8 points behind the Dogs with more that half the season still to play.

Gametime at the MIM is 8pm.....Should be a good one.....Check out the video on the Halton Hills website....Bulldog Rivalry.........Good Stuff!!

DOUBLE BLUE SPLIT WEEEKEND GAMES Updated 5/19/2010

The Ms played a pair of games this past weekend, winning on the front end and losing on the back end of an away, and home encounter.

On Friday night, the boys on the bus travelled to Huntsville to face  the "golden" hawks.  The hawks are a much improved team over 2009 and should earn a spot in the post season.  Mimico controlled the game and came away with a 12 to 5 victory.

Player of the Game for Mimico was #22 Andrew Bennett.

MIMICO 12 AT HUNTSVILLE 5

On Saturday evening Mimico faced the always strong Green Gaels of Clarington. The first period was a back and forth affair, with Mimico striking on a pair of power-play markers, but behind by a 3-2 count after one.  The second saw the wheels fall off on the Mounties vehicle, as the Gaels struck on six occasions, shutting out the Blues in the 2nd, leading the home side 9-2.   Mimico was able to regain some composure and win the third period 3-1, but not enough as the Gaels took this one by a score of 10-5.

GREEN GAELS 10 AT MIMICO 5

Mimico has a busy week up coming. Tuesday on the road, versus the Beach, at Ted Reeve Arena. Thursday, the Halton Hills Bulldogs visit the MIM for the first of 4 encounters this season. Gametime is 8pm.

On the long weekend, the boys board the bus once again to travel to the Nation's Capital.  On Saturday night, the main course is the Gloucester Griffins...hopefully it agrees with the Ms.   On Sunday afternoon, the Nepean Knights play host at Barbara Ann Scott Arena, for a 2pm tilt.
